Lina Forlino homeware explores a unique material, LINEN.

Linen is an ancient and ecological material that is both light and durable and offers numerous creative possibilities.

Our range, characterised by a subtle transition of shades and textures, brings coherence and atmospheric colouring as well as helping to unify home interior decoration holistically.

Origins

The origins of linen date back more than 8000 years; traces left by the Egyptians, who attributed the invention of linen to the Godess Isis, were discovered in the Mediterranean basin. In ancient times the Phoenicians brought back the fibre to the European continent for commercial trade with Athens and Rome. Ever since, the cultivation of linen has continued and harvesting and weaving techniques have grown ever more sophisticated.

Qualities

Linen possesses particular exceptional characteristics which makes the fibre unique.

A natural, environmentally friendly fibre: the cultivation of linen requires very little fertiliser or pesticides and produces no waste. Short twigs that cannot be used in the fabric's production, are used instead for making of ropes and a variety of oils.

A strong fibre: the world's oldest textile is also the strongest, it improves with age and is well-known for its durability.

Adaptable material with many uses: its hollow structure and natural absorbitive qualities make it soft to the touch. The fibre is ideal for decoration as it has insulating and sound-proofing properties which make it ideal to adapt to the changing seasons, and also soothing for rest.

Therapeutic qualities: it is hypoallergenic, anti-stress and has other medicinal virtues, it also helps to reduce the prevalence of dust and insects.

Maintenance

In order to preserve your home linen, LINA FORLINO advises you to wash it at no higher than 40 degrees, without tumble drying. Linen should be ironed while still humid using the maximum setting of steam and temperature.
